The Nerdies 2010 In early 2010, pixelmagic was approached to design a logo for the rapidly growing annual Nerdies competition run by NerdMag.
The brief was to create a stylish logo that was fun, funky and above all, seriously nerdy at the same time. We were as thrilled with it as they were! :)
See the logo in action on the NerdMag here: http://moralfibre.co.za/nerdmag/2010/02/12/the-nerdies-2010-results/ Be-Mobile Be-Mobile contracted pixelmagic to rework mobi sites for SA Tourism, Sandwich Baron and others. We must have impressed them, because we were then asked to redo their CI (Corporate identity: Logo, letterhead, business cards, powerpoint presentation; email branding and website)
This WordPress based website features a "featured article" carousel slider, hidden social networking icons and tight integration into social media.
See the site live here: http://www.be-mobile.co.za
(And you can point your phone at http://m.be-mobile.co.za to see the mobi site we designed for them too) BidAHorse247 Having been dropped by a previous designer, BidAHorse approached pixelmagic with a big request:
- a complete CI (logo, branding, the works) - landing page and page where people could submit horses for auction - a fully featured auction site that they could update themselves - a blog - facebook page up and running along with facebook ads - branded twitter profile
... no big deal, right? Here's the big deal - they needed ALL of that under budget and in a week! And they wanted advertising page curls and all the bells and whistles too...
We brought it in under (*a fortunately and reasonably large) budget, and a day early for them... what can we say? Our clients love us :)
Go bid on a horse here: http://www.bidahorse247.co.za Coral Stephens Handweaving The culmination of a conversation that started almost a year prior (by way of the Highveld Horse Care Unit website), the Coral Stephens handweaving site needed to be a rich tapestry woven with beautiful images and words.
This is a WordPress site, so the site owner may have as much or as little interaction with their audience as they like, as well as having the ability to change and update any part of the site they like, when they like, with no special knowledge of design or code.
See how it's all woven together here: http://www.coralstephens.com Sandton SPCA Being ardent animal lovers, we were thrilled to be approached to develop the Sandton SPCA website.
They needed a site they could easily update themselves, so as not to incur continuous maintenance costs, so a CMS (Content Management System) was the order of the day. They needed a site that could showcase cute photos without taking up a huge amount of space: an animated flash header took care of that!
Support the Sandton SPCA here: http://www.sandtonspca.org.za Kgwanyape We were very excited when Kgwanyape contacted us to design and develop a custom WordPress theme for their blog and article driven site - we love everything green! ;)
KES site is beautiful, green and consistent, with complete yet subtle web2.0 integration. It features massive Social Networking integration; with twitter updates being an integral part of the site, and social bookmarklets featuring prominently.
See the site here: http://kgwanyape.com Angel's Mind Angel's an old friend, and when she wanted a custom WordPress theme created especially for her blog, we were thrilled when she chose pixelmagic to do it!
Angel's crazy about cupcakes, strawberries and dragons, and is very active in the ADHD community.. so we needed a really funky, girly, pinkish site that reflected that - with all the blogging ease that WordPress gives.
We were so pleased she loved the results!
See what's on Angel's mind here: http://www.angelsmind.co.za Wynberg Panel Beaters Wynberg Panelbeaters, are a very progressive company - they understand that vehicle accidents can be stressful and because of this they
provide a professional service that is convenient, hassle free and puts
you back on the road quickly.
In order to further these aims, they ordered a website where their clients could check on the progress of their vehicle's repair, without needing to even pick up a telephone!
See the site here: http://www.wynbergpb.co.za Neigh-Bours A collaboration between two very horsey ladies, their vision was to create a place for the South African equine community to come together and share ideas, blog, chat, ask, discuss and generally talk about all things horse.
Featuring a forum, live chat, blogs and a quick chat "shout box", the site gives you lots of different ways to talk, as well as having a fully featured event calendar and a CMS (content management system) so the site owners can update the site themselves.
See the site here: http://www.neigh-bours.co.za EQualZeal EQualZeal specialises in Life Coaching for kids, and had very specific needs for their website! The site is built around an online assessment that allows parents to identify areas of need in their children.
We're quite proud of the way this assessment is coded: once you've taken the assessment once, you don't need to fill out personal details again for second and third family members - the site remembers it. The assessment mails itself to the trainer at the closest branch to the family, and mails an assessment response to the site user. It also gives the user a chance to download the results as a pdf - all branded.
Statistical information is represented by branded graphs, and subsequent assessments are compared graphically too. And this is all beside the full CMS (Content Management System) and other interactivity! :)

Starting a new business can be daunting, and difficult on a limited budget. This "handy" lady needed an online web presence quickly that wouldn't break her budget while she was getting up and running.
Coupled with an affordable facebook campaign, this simple site has content written by our professional copywriter, and has proven to be highly effective!
See the site live here: http://www.therapeutics.co.za The Guest Nest This charming self- catering apartment needed an electronic image to match it's beautiful interior!
We did them a mini CI (corporate identity), comprising a logo, business card and one page website to keep initial costs down. We also got a copywriter and a talented amateur photographer for this client to showcase the apartment without breaking the bank.
See the results here: http://www.guestnest.co.za Eastgate Manor The first of two Bed & Breakfast sites for 2009, the proprietor of Eastgate Manor wanted to reposition and rebrand her business, without spending a vast amount of money in these cash strapped times!
We did this for her by getting in a professional copywriter for the new Eastgate Manor site that we created, and by creating memorable dual-purpose bookmark business cards!
See the site live at http://www.eastgatemanor.co.za EQualZeal Mailers pixelmagic loved EQualZeal's branding from the second we saw it, so we were thrilled when they finally commisioned us to do some Corporate ID (CI) work for them: The PowerPoint template we did for them got this response:
“I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been
doing my presentation for over a year now… and last night, for the
first time I felt like I really had the WOW factor! I have always had a
good response to my presentation… but last night was just something
else! I was overwhelmed by the feedback about the professionalism and
my awesome presentation… thanks to you of course!!”
But our favourites are the emailers we did for them: an "upcoming events" newsflash emailer and an invitation to a book launch emailer! (shown at left) The Feeder Factory website The Feeder Factory wanted a site that was simple and easy, but that they could maintain and update themselves, with no special knowledge.
The also needed provision made for possible future advertising on the site, as well as a newsletter subscription management tool.
pixelmagic deployed all of this in record time using a WordPress installation with a theme (design) custom made for the site by us to compliment their brand new branding and corporate ID. The Feeder Factory took or advice and worked with one of our copywriters - and the results are fantastic!
See the results here: http://www.thefeederfactory.co.za Viljoen Consulting When Nikki from Viljoen Consulting approached us, she had 3 different blogs and a static website that wasn't really doing much for her. She wanted to consolidate all her scattered blogs into a dynamic, interactive marketing tool .
We built her a CMS (Content Managing System) that incvorporates
- user management (people can sign up as members) - blogs - ability to update her own pages - ability to upload youTube videos and other media - events calendar - private messaging system - "tell a friend" feature
See the site live here: http://www.viljoenconsulting.co.za Regus eCards Five years later, and pixelmagic still counts Regus amongst our favourite clients!
In 2008, we've built them a pretty snazzy internal database management and CRM application, so that they can keep track of their brokers' loyalty program - oncluding the ability to send funky branded, totally customisable personalised emailers.
We also build them their eCard templates at the beginning of every year - here's 2009s! The Feeder Factory Corporate Identity Based in Durban, The Feeder Factory found us on Facebook and commisioned us to create a Corporate ID with a bit of a difference:
- logo - letterhead - label - pricelists - fridge stickers
The owner sent us this photo of the fridge stickers "in the wild" :) (We loved drawing the little mouse prints going up the right hand side!)
Look out for their website coming soon... fresh fish! blog fresh fish! followed our advice for small start-ups: “start with a simple site, and when it's brought you a couple of clients, then spend some more on making it more complex!” and commisioned a blog, in order to leverage the current wave of Social Networking as a marketing tool.
Featuring custom-made, interchangeable-on-demand backgrounds; this fairly simple blog has all the tools to make it powerful: Friendly URLS for Search Engine Optimisation, RSS feeds, comments, a Content Management System and built in spam detection.
There's nothing fishy about http://blog.fresh-fish.co.za Birds&Bees Birds&Bees needed a logo as the beginning of a Corporate ID for their designer maternity wear, designed by women for women.
After several false starts and having not gotten what they wanted from other designers, they asked pixelmagic to design them something cute, fun 'n funky and bright.
Here's the first attempt and final result! :) Pink Kink Launching just in time for end of year parties, Pink Kink, the The Pink Party Specialists, needed a site that reflected their fun, funky corporate party spirit!
We added lots of foliage (to hide behind), rainbow colours (to proudly wear) and lots of pink and purple - their parties look to die for! :)
See the site in the pink here: http://www.pinkkink.co.za Noteworks Starting a new business can be daunting. The costs can be staggering. Having a simple, eyecatching one page site is a perfect way to start your web presence, without breaking the bank.
Noteworks came to pixelmagic for a complete branding and corporate id solution: logo, letterhead, business card, facebook group image and one page website.
Tak note of the live site here: http://www.noteworks.co.za Soweto Equestrian Foundation A legend in South African equine circles, Enos Mafokate’s passion for horses overcame racial barriers to excel
in the elite sport of show jumping in the 1960s and 1970s. Today he is
building an equestrian centre and creating skilled jobs in the heart of
Soweto. The Soweto Equestrian Foundation is a registered not for profit
organisation which will control, own and develop the Soweto Equestrian
Centre.
::pixelmagic:; was contracted to build an interactive, community based website where the site owners could update the site themselves, post events in the event calendar, add photos to the gallery and invite people to sign up as site members.
See what we're talking about here - and feel free to sign up: http://www.sowetoequestrianfoundation.co.za cyclemind "Do what you think is best" is our favourite brief! :)
CycleMind is just starting up and wanted to set off on the right foot (or tyre, as the case may be!)
::pixelmagic:: was comissioned to develop a logo which would be the basis of the forthcoming Corporate ID, website and cycling gear. R & D Motors R & D Motors has lots of experience with fixing cars, but very little experience with the internet. They didn't have a website, but this family business recognised the growing necessity for a web presence.
::pixelmagic:: built them a simple site which will require no updating - but it is the ideal platform for them to build on in the future.
See the site live here: http://www.rdmotors.co.za Dee's Saddlery Dee's Saddlery needed a very simple, inexpensive, one page site that would not need any maintenance.
The site needed to be aesthetically pleasing, as well as show people a thumbnail of what Dee's offers, and have space for a simple map.
See how ::pixelmagic: achieved that here: http://www.dees.co.za fresh fish! A one page site shouldn't be boring!
fresh fish! is a new company with big ideas but a small initial budget. It was important to the client to get the "aquascape feel" by means of some fun, quick loading flash animation and the right colours!
pixelmagic developed a fresh and fishy logo and corporate id (including an ID image for their facebook group) built them a simple but funky one page site.
See the site live here: http://www.fresh-fish.co.za TB Images TB Images URGENTLY needed a static info site as an introduction to their incredibly successful gallery of event photography.
In the 18 hours between getting the brief from our clients and the site going live, pixelmagic dropped everything to create a simple, effective site.
The site is constructed so that the owner can easily update their "photo of the week" too!
See it here: http://www.tbimages.co.za New Turf Carriers A one page site doesn't have to be boring!
New Turf Carriers have lots of experience with trucking horses, but very little experience with the internet. They didn't have a website, but this family business recognised the growing necessity of a web presence.
pixelmagic built them a simple one page site which will require no updating - but it is the ideal platform for them to build on in the future.
See the site live here: http://www.newturf.co.za Landrover Experience
There are
many reasons for customers and the general public to use and enjoy the
Kwa-Zulu Natal Landrover Experience (KZN LRE) centre.
Not least of which is their brand new website, information rich and saturated with the kind of exquisite photography that Landrover is famous for!
Go see why you should drive one here: http://www.lre.co.za WFO-Print: WFO-Print, based in the UK, wanted us to storyboard a short animation to run on their home page. The idea was to catch attention, and hopefully make people laugh. The animation would be changed each month, but loosely follows a theme.
The amazingly talented Steven Bankart illustrated Derek the Power Panda and passed him on to ::pixelmagic:: to animate.

Rising to the occasion, we worked through the night to give their site a facelift, add a bit of Flash animation to jazz it up without slowing it down, and rolled the site out live 72 hours from getting our first brief.
(It did help that the client was one of the nicest and easiest I've ever worked with!)

Centaur Society pixelmagic entered the Centaur Society logo design competition on Equine SA in March 2008 - and won first prize: A Weekend for 2 people in Swaziland Game Reserve worth R10 000. * Rock of Execution Horse Trail + night at Reilly's Rock Hilltop Lodge. * Followed by a night at Mkhaya Game Reserve.

See the competition page on EquineSA for more details. Makee Sushi pixelmagic makees sushi!
Makee Sushi needed a very simple one page site with basic info and contact details on them, but the design needed to have a subtle Japanese flair, and the time pressure was enormous (24 hour turnaround!)
We love sushi, and we LOVE their concept, so we rolled their site out just in time.
Learn more at http://www.arteffect.co.za/makeesushi GrillMasters Proudly South African with an oriental flavour, Grillmasters is based in Taiwan.
They needed a business card that had the feel of a typical South African braai, with respect paid to their new home town.
We created them flames, heat and far east sizzle with their new business card and corporate ID! Olympus Live Without Limits game Olympus wanted to launch their new µ850SW camera slightly differently to the usual print ad campaign.
Using a really cute (but not too easy) hand drawn and animated flash game, pixelmagic created a viral campaign that uses word of mouth to spread the news. The game was launched by a bulk email that we designed and sent to their database; as well as on social networking site, facebook.
I can't enter for obvious reasons, and neither can pixelmagic staff or contractors, but you can. Good luck! The game runs til end of June 2008

Kyburg Wine Estate A relatively new endeavour, Kyburg's owners wanted their first website to be visually as rich, elegant and opulent as their wine, without costing the earth!
We created a simple html brochureware site for them, with lots of photos to showcase the beauty of the vineyard and the cottage.
See the site here: http://www.kyburgwine.com Norton Aquatics Norton Aquatics wanted to evolve from the basic static with flash site we did for them in 2007.
We upped their game and gave them a semi-community site with membership management, updatable news, discussion forums, a content management system for their library of fish-related articles and a random article/latest news feature for their main page so it always stays fresh!
See how fresh the fish are at http://www.nortons.co.za Oryx Internet When pixelmagic's hosting partner needed a fresh new look, we were naturally their number one choice, and this is what we developed for them.
We think they were bucked with it ;) Shelly Goldsmith: Artist Another StudioBaum/pixelmagic collaboration brought this UK based artist's web vision to life.
The ability to update her site herself with no special knowledge allows her to showcase all her work, including the most recent, while keeping updating costs to a minimum.
Feast your eyes on http://www.shellygoldsmith.com MetSuYan This exclusive UK based restaurant serves exquisite glatt kosher oriental cuisine.
Another StudioBaum/pixelmagic collaboration brought the clients the clean, simple interface they wanted, along with absolute flexibility in content management.
Taste the sensation here: http://www.metsuyan.co.uk/index.php Rubber Mats Another equine-related site is added to pixelmagic's stable: Rubber Mats needed a simple, warm, friendly site that would not need to be updated very often.
We built them a static html brochureware site that has a handy Quotation Request form that sends simple email. We added a small amount of judiciously used Flash animation to give the site life and movement, visually.
See the site live at http://www.rubbermats.co.za Highveld Horse Care Unit This non-profit organisation needed a user-friendly website where they could highlight the plight of abused and neglected equines, as well as create an online community of like minded individuals, pooling resources.
We built them a site that features easily updateable news areas, member signup and management, photo galleries, online donation with a credit card payment gateway, a fully featured banner ad system; blogs, content they could easily edit and manage on their own without the need for costly updating and a system to communicate with all site members easily.
See the site in action at http://www.horsecare.org.za ComplexCity For a truly revolutionary approach to simplify complex living, pixelmagic built ComplexCity a Content Management System that runs their website's content, as well as their membership management, and their banner advertising system at the same time.
There's so much going on behind the scenes of this website - we wish we were allowed to tell you all about it! But suffice to say that one person can manage all aspects of this site, without needing any specialised programming knowledge. A funky new online Corporate Identity of colours and logo was commissioned as part of this project.
Is YOUR complex listed? Find out here: http://www.complexcity.co.za/turkana Ms MoneyPenny A progressive book keeping enterprise, Ms MoneyPenny wanted their Corporate ID to reflect the fun, feminine flourish they bring to their level of professionalism.

See how rockin the future is here: http://www.rockingfuture.co.za Regus Regus are the masters of communication lines. They regularly keep in close touch with their clients, brokers and branches by way of a quarterly eZine, regular news bulletin emailers and loyalty points rewards updates to brokers.
We manage their large (700+ email addresses) and smaller (-300 email addresses) mail runs, and provide click tracking of articles, as well as delivery and read reports. We manage their user base in terms of unsubscribes, and always provide ECT act compliant opt out links.
Highveld Horse Care Unit : Print ad for HQ Magazine and others While we were developing the Highveld Horsecare Unit's website, a number of publications kindly offered to flight full and half page adverts coinciding with the website's launch.
We built the print ad campaign around the cutest equine we could find at the unit, and this is the result! Clarens Conversations Clarens Conversations is the Clarens Mountain Estate's quarterly eNewsletter.
We were approached to create the email template, as well as develop the article pages that the teasers in the newsletter refer to. meltdowns Our first collaboration with the acclaimed UK based StudioBaum, Meltdowns is a unique international arts facility run by artists for artists and those interested in the creative process.
The artists are able to update their own profiles and post their latest works.
The proof is in the pudding, apparently - barely 2 weeks after launching the site, the owners received their first commission as a direct result!
See our direct result here: http://www.meltdowns.co.uk Office Forum We were appoached by Office Forum to give their website a makeover in line with their new Corporate Id, as well as giving them the tools to instantly update their comprehensive and enormous range of office furniture and accessories, avoiding costly site maintenance.
See how we did it here: http://www.officeforum.co.za Regus: Christmas invitation As opposed to us doing a mailrun for them, Regus wanted to be able to send out their own, personalised email invitation to their end of year function to their clients.
The template needed to be in line with their creative, but simple enough so that the design would not alter on being edited.
This is our fifth year with Regus, so we know how to make them happy! :) Commission: acrylic on canvas Some years ago, I created a handpainted tshirt of a large green frog. As the years passed, the tshirt started to disintegrate, and the owner commissioned me to do a more permanent version on a 1.25m x 1.75m canvas.
The result is on the left, with the original tshirt inset. JC Photo As a profession photographer, Julian Cole needded a way to display large, clear images of his work without running the risk of having his copyrighted images stolen off his own site.
We're not going to tell you how we did it (oh alright, it was done by pixelmagic ;)) but we also added a random seed to the site which means that every time a visitor sees the site, there's something new and fresh that they haven't seen before. All contact forms are protected with an anti-spam mechanism.
See it in action here: http://www.jcphoto.co.za Tabard Tabard is a household name in southern Africa. A world-class mosquito and insect repellent, Tabard has remained the best known brand in its category in southern Africa for decades. But there's more to Tabard than just Tabard!
Acorn Group needed a fresh new website with a little bit of animation to give the site life and movement. They needed a site that had a consistent look and feel across all products, but allowed the Corporate Identity of these well known brands to shine through.
See how we did that for them: http://www.tabard.co.za Sandwich Baron Because of the rapidly growing popularity of the Sandwich Baron franchises, management needed a platform that would enthuse, entice and inform both diners and potential franchisees; as well as giving current franchisees a way to talk amongst each other by way of a forum. They also needed a sign up for updates option, so visitors could put their names down to hear about exciting new developments like online ordering
The challenge was to create all of this in one attractive website that allowed access to and displayed different information to viewers depending on who they were.
See how our multi-user class website solved that: http://www.sandwichbaron.co.za
